If you ever wanted to see how much traffic your internet connection applications generated, then you are very well advised to get the SeriousBit-developed application NetBalancer Pro. This software program will display the upload and download rates for all the applications installed on your machine that are connected to the web. And if you ever wanted to be able to manage the transfer rates for the internet-connected applications installed on your machine, you are also very well advised to get the NetBalancer Pro software program. The application lets you set download and upload transfer rate priority for any application; applications with a higher network priority will gain more traffic bandwidth.

Getting a 1.9MB installation file is the first step you must take should you decide to give NetBalancer Pro a try. A less than 2MB download will complete in a blink, even on a less than spectacular internet connection. To install the application on your Windows-powered machine (any Windows edition from XP up to Windows 7) you just need to run that installation file and go through the steps presented by a setup wizard. When you start the installation process you will be informed that installing NetBalancer Pro will reset your network connections and temporarily disconnect your from the network. When the installation process is over, you will be asked to reboot your machine.

Assuming you check the “create a desktop shortcut” option during the installation, you will notice two shortcuts on your desktop, one called NetBalancer and the other, NetBalancer Tray.

After launching NetBalancer, you are presented with a list of all running applications and processes and you are informed about how much data they uploaded and downloaded. For any entry on the list you can change the download and upload network priority; you can choose between the following: High priority, Normal priority, Low priority, Block traffic, Ignore traffic, and Limit traffic. By choosing the Limit traffic option, you’re basically preventing that app from uploading and downloading data off the web. By choosing the High priority option, you’re ensuring that the application gets more traffic bandwidth. From the Level Severity menu you can set the speed difference between applications with different network priorities.

Launch NetBalancer Tray and you will be presented with a floating window that displays your upload and download traffic rates. You can place the window anywhere you want on the screen and whenever you want to view your traffic rate, take a quick glance at it.

A nice touch is the fact that you can password protect NetBalancer Pro. You can put a password in place to ensure that no one apart from yourself can access the application.

You have 30 days at your disposal to use NetBallancer Pro for free and test its functionality. Once the trial period is over, you will have to get a license to keep using the application. Alternatively, you can switch to the Free version, NetBallancer Free. Do note that the Free edition is limited to a maximum of 5 process priorities/limits and 5 rules at a time, has no separate network adapters management and no support for Network Grouping.

NetBalancer Pro is a handy and easy to use tool you can use to monitor and manage internet traffic rates. By changing the transfer rate priority of the applications that upload and download data off the web, you can ensure that some applications have more traffic bandwidth than others.

Pros

Lightweight download, simple installation process; NetBalancer Pro works on Windows 2003, XP, Vista, and Windows 7. User friendly interface. Change the transfer rate priority for all the applications installed on your machine. Password protect NetBalancer Pro and prevent unauthorized access to the application. Support for multiple languages is provided.

Cons

Free to use for a trial period of 30 days.
